Our Memory: It is said that mangonadas were created on the streets of Mexico in the 1990s, But I grew up with them at Maxwell Street, a Chicago tradition street market. Mangonadas are made of sliced mango, ice cream, squeeze of lime and Mexican condiments, chamoy, a spicy-salty-sugar puree, and Tajin, a powdery mix of chili peppers. Mangonadas are usually topped with big plastic straws wrapped in salty, chili-flecked tamarind paste. We never left Maxwell Street without this and every Sunday, we would walk through the west side streets that intersected with Halsted Street just south of Roosevelt Road.
All candles are hand-poured in Brookfield, IL.
